She has a degree in textiles including print, weave and knit. But from her second year, it was her love of knitting that really inspired her work creating interesting fabrics on big industrial knitting machines.
Charlotte is fascinated by loops and loves to manipulate yarns to create structures and textures that you can wear: “I love the concept of creating all aspects of the fabric from just one yarn, as well as the ability to mix colour and texture playfully in a hand knit pattern.” Her work reflects the myriad of influences that she pours into her designs. When we asked Charlotte what inspires her most of all she was definite: “The city. Any city. The fast pace and the diverse mixture of people walking the same streets.”
Her designs also have a very thoughtful side to them, mixing functionality and personality together to bring out the most unusual textures and harmonies of colour. “My favourite Yarn Stories yarn at the moment is the Fine Merino DK and I love shade Mulberry, together with Dove,” she says. What a fantastic colour combination, we hope to see it in one of Charlotte’s designs soon.
