It was such a thrill for us when Isabell Kraemer agreed to design for Yarn Stories in our first season. Her style is simple and uncluttered yet very elegant, which we felt would complement our yarns perfectly. If you haven’t come across her work before she is regularly featured in the top 20 most popular patterns on Ravelry.
Isabell is a German knitwear designer who creates everyday items for modern knitters. A simple jumper becomes a much more thoughtful garment on her needles. Those who know her designs love her casual, contemporary pieces that all come with a little twist.
As well as being a self-confessed stripe addict she loves the outdoors and she is heavily influenced by nature, which you can see in the way she chooses or blends colours. Isabell is also hooked on seamless construction; not because she doesn’t like seaming (she is a fully qualified dressmaker after all), but because she loves to see garments take shape and being able to adjust the fit on the go. If you have never knitted a garment this way it is definitely worth trying and Isabell’s patterns are so well written you have nothing to fear. Each of her patterns has clear explanatory notes and even links to YouTube video tutorials.
Although hugely successful as a knitwear designer, she says that the biggest accomplishment is her son – becoming a mother was the best thing that has happened to her, followed a close second by her husband and her three cats.
Isabell is on Ravelry as lilalu.
