The first time we met Lily was at an event in Grasmere. She walked past in an amazing garment that immediately sparked intrigue and attention. When her mum, Amanda, explained that it was Lily’s own pattern, we nearly fell off our hay bale. Lily was only 13 at the time.
She actually began designing her own knits at the age 10. Standing at 5'6 she was a little too tall to wear children’s patterns, yet her pre-teen frame wouldn't fill any women’s size. “My solution: write my own patterns, starting with a seamless, fitted, round-yoked sweater. Simple stuff, y'know!” she explains and really makes it sound so achievable – that’s why we love to work with Lily.
“What I've always liked most about the craft is the ability to customise and tailor to the nth degree. Playing around with structural details - from the most basic to the fiddly in the extreme - is my favourite part of the designing/knitting process.” She explains her innovative style so much better than we could!
As a sixteen year old designer who has been publishing patterns for five years, she is doubtlessly in the minority, but playing with stereotypes is part of the fun.
Lily tells us it is exciting to be involved with the launch of a new line, especially one so luxurious (aw shucks!). “ As cosy, woolly yarns go, this one's about as soft as it gets, so it's super easy on the hands and perfect for accessories. I'm sure you'll love working with and wearing it!”
